Welcome to the Chesterfield Bach Choir’s website!

The choir is a well-established mixed-voice choir of about 20 voices, based at Wingerworth, Chesterfield. It’s Musical Director is Robert Girdler, who is also Organist and Choirmaster at Wingerworth Parish Church and Director of the Hunloke Motet Singers. It gives public concerts at local venues in the Chesterfield area. Its members are drawn mainly from the local area and it aims to provide opportunities for local musicians to take solo vocal roles and participate in the associated Hunloke Sinfonia orchestra, when appropriate.

In the past, it has staged major works such as Bach Mass in B minor, Bach Matthew Passion and Monteverdi Vespers of 1612. More recently, it has become more of a chamber choir, concentrating on the English and Continental Baroque repertoire, and promoting some less well-known works.

It offers a rewarding, but challenging, musical experience for singers with good sight-reading ability, and new members are always welcome, subject to audition. Further information on joining the choir or being added to the free mailing list for future events is obtainable from Phyllis Brown (0114 2367236), or via this website.

The choir is a registered charity (No. 509203). It is a member of the National Federation of Music Societies and operates in accordance with the NFMS Discrimination Policy in regard to both choir members and concert venues.
